FIFA Ethics and Regulations Watch (FERW) congratulates FIFA on successful completion of its six-month mission in Confederation of African Football (CAF).

On Sunday, FIFA presented the conclusions of its mission in CAF, to the meeting of the CAF Executive Committee held in Rabat, Morocco.

FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura was designated FIFA General Delegate for Africa between 1 August 2019 and 1 February 2020 and worked together with CAF General Secretary Mouad Hajjimade to ensure achievement of the following goals:

  • Good governance, financial management and internal procedures;
  • An efficient and professional organisation of competitions;
  • Growth and development of African football.

Following the expiration of the tenure of CAF-FIFA Cooperation agreement, the CAF Executive Committee expressed gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and of Ms Samoura for their commitment and involvement in the African football and announced its intention to continue with the implementation of reforms.

A number of recommendations were proposed by FIFA including:

  • Creating a group of professional referees, financed and organized by FIFA in partnership with CAF;
  • Mobilising a minimum fund of 1 billion U.S. dollars to invest in infrastructures in all the 54 African member associations;
  • Seeking a range of new competitions on women’s football, youth categories, national teams and club competitions, including a pan-African League to be played every four years and the creation of a new pan-African club competition;
  • Implementing, by CAF’s relevant bodies, the 100-point action plan proposed by the independent task force.

Overall, FERW is satisfied with the delivery of the joint effort made by FIFA and CAF.

In light of this news, FERW calls on FIFA to continue its commitment to helping African football enhance and grow globally.

Furthermore, FERW also calls on all football officials to abide by FIFA regulations and act in accordance with the FIFA Code of Ethics to ensure that all practices are conducted in a corruption-free environment, towards the growth and prosperity of football worldwide.
