The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reached a significant agreement regarding the hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. According to reliable sources within CAF, the prestigious tournament is slated to take place in Morocco during the months of July and August next year.

This agreement follows recent uncertainty surrounding the scheduling of the Africa Cup of Nations, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe refraining from confirming specific dates earlier this month. The challenge of organizing qualifying matches within a limited timeframe, especially if the tournament were to be held in January and February, prompted discussions within the football community.

In light of these considerations, the proposal to hold the 2025 AFCON in June and July faced potential clashes with FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup, scheduled to unfold in North America during the same period.

A member of CAF’s competitions committee, speaking anonymously to AFP on Monday, revealed the existence of a tentative agreement between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation. This agreement, facilitated with the support of FIFA, marks a significant step forward in the planning process for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“The agreement in principle between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation for the AFCON to be held during the summer, more precisely in July and August 2025, has been reached,” the source affirmed.

Furthermore, the proposed dates for the tournament are July 20 to August 16 or 17, 2025, providing a clearer timeline for stakeholders and football enthusiasts alike.

Recent editions of the Africa Cup of Nations have experienced scheduling adjustments, with the 2021 tournament, initially intended for Cameroon, eventually taking place in January and February of 2022. Similarly, the most recent edition, originally planned for June and July of the preceding year, was rescheduled due to weather-related concerns.

As the anticipation builds for the 2025 AFCON, qualification matches for the tournament have yet to commence, with a preliminary round scheduled for the coming month.

Looking ahead, the 2027 Cup of Nations promises to be a collaborative effort, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania set to co-host the prestigious tournament.

FERW remains committed to delivering accurate and timely updates on the developments surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations and other significant events in the world of football.
