FIFA Ethics and Regulations Watch (FERW) strongly supports FIFA’s decision to add two female awards to their Best FIFA ceremony in Milan in September.
On Monday, FIFA announced two brand-new accolades to be added to The Best FIFA Football Awards: The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper and Female Team of the Year.
Therefore, the award categories for male and female footballers are now equal.
According to Zvonimir Boban, FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General (Football):
“It is yet another step in the right direction to raise the profile of women’s football”.
In light of this news, FERW calls on FIFA to investigate cases of gender discrimination and support women in football worldwide.
Furthermore, FERW calls on all football clubs and associations officials to abide by FIFA regulations and act in accordance with the FIFA Code of Ethics to ensure gender parity and protect women in sports.
