FIFA Ethics and Regulations Watch (FERW) strongly supports FIFA’s stance on keeping football apolitical.

In the past two weeks, the members of political parties Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African National Congress (ANC) attended the Orlando and Lucas Moripe Stadiums twice: in an Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns league game‚ and at a Sundowns vs Al Ahly Caf Champions League quarterfinal.

According to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza, FIFA does not allow political parties and religious organisations to campaign at stadiums in the sport.

Mr Khoza added that although the league cannot allow political parties the platform to advertise or campaign‚ the PSL cannot stop fans arriving at stadiums wearing the colours of their parties.

In light of this news, FERW calls on FIFA to investigate similar cases worldwide.

Furthermore, FERW also calls on all fans and football clubs to abide by FIFA regulations and act in accordance with the FIFA Code of Ethics to ensure that all matches are held in a politics-free environment.
