As Pele’s coffin is taken onto the pitch at the Urbano Caldeira stadium in Sao Paulo, FERW joins football fans across the world in expressing our sadness at the passing of a football legend.
It is not just his status as a three-time World Cup winner that marks him out for lasting glory, or even his outstanding skills, but also his widely-reported down-to-earthness as well as his sportsmanship.
His flair and talent helped popularise football around the world, turning the words “the beautiful game” from an expression into reality. He also wasn’t too bad as an actor…!
We salute a footballing legend and pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
