FIFA Ethics and Regulations Watch (FERW) strongly supports FIFA’s decision to ban the South Sudanese official for taking soccer money.
According to FIFA, its adjudicatory chamber has found that Mr Chabur Goc Alei had breached art. 28 (Misappropriation of funds) and art. 20 (Offering and accepting gifts and other benefits) of the FIFA Code of Ethics and, as a result, banned him for 10 (ten) years from all soccer-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level. Mr Alei was also fined 500,000 Swiss francs.
As an investigation revealed, Mr Alei “misappropriated” funds from his federation’s annual grant from Zurich and development project money in 2014 and 2015. Moreover, Mr Alei paid other soccer officials from the misused FIFA money.
In light of this news, FERW calls on FIFA to investigate corruption cases in sports worldwide.
Furthermore, FERW also calls on all football clubs and associations officials to abide by FIFA regulations and act in accordance with the FIFA Code of Ethics to ensure that all practices are conducted in a clean and moral environment.
